Maybe it’s because I happened to have £150 fall into my lap around the time that pre-orders started and, combining that with the increased trade-in price GAME were offering for DSi XLs, I managed to actually make up the funds without spending a penny of my own cash. Maybe despite knowing the pitfalls of early-adopting, I can’t help myself. Maybe it’s the Nintendo fanboy in me struggling to prove he’s still alive. So, I’ll repeat: why am I getting one at launch? I’ll be honest, I don’t know. And since I doubt I’ll go out with it much, I won’t get much use out of things like Street Pass or the pedometer coin thing that I really don’t know much about. And the games I actually care about - Star Fox, Zelda, Kid Icarus, Professor Layton – aren’t out for ages. Then there are the online services… except they won’t be live for a while after launch. So, yes, just Pilotwings for me… and I hope it’s good, because I hated what Nintendo did to Pilotwings 64. However, I just can’t summon the energy to care about Nintendogs (even if it’s got cats in it) and I already own so many versions of Street Fighter that adding another one to the pile doesn’t appeal at all, especially since I doubt I’d ever use the 3D angled view thing. I’m not saying the others won’t be decent. Thing is though, what am I going to use it for? Of the launch line-up, I’ve really only got interest in one game – Pilotwings Resort, which I’ve also pre-ordered. Essentially then, I’ve already got my 3DS… I just don’t actually have it in my hands yet. And it’s not just pre-ordered either – I’ve got my pre-order deposit paid and then a gift card from GAME loaded with £220 ready to pay off the balance, meaning I’ll be picking up my 3DS on launch day (quite possibly from a midnight launch, since I haven’t been to one of those since the Wii came out). To that end then, I’m not entirely sure why I’ve got a Nintendo 3DS pre-ordered.
